My Holy Grail

Here we go, time to talk about my HOLY GRAIL product; coconut oil. I cook with it, I eat it, I rub it all over my body, and now I’m going to share the reasons why I am obsessed with this item.

Let’s start with why I eat/cook with it. Coconut oil is a weight-loss friendly fat. It contains fatty acids that have a powerful effect on your metabolism. Just by including coconut oil into your diet, you help get rid of stubborn fat cells and eliminate the “bad” fats that live in your stomach. Need I say more? I incorporate coconut oil into my diet a few different ways. One way to add it in is through a smoothie. Melt 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil and pour it into your smoothie, especially a pineapple-coconut flavored smoothie, it tastes like a pina colada, YUM. I also cook with coconut oil instead of olive oil. I usually use coconut oil cooking spray (and sometimes spray it in my hair, ridiculous I know) but when I need to add healthy fats into my day I scoop 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil and begin melting it in a pan to cook up my veggies and meat. Coconut oil can increase high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and lowers low-density lipoproteins (LDL) cholesterol, so it’ll keep you healthy. It also helps improve digestion, and gut health is very important. I use coconut oil in a ton of recipes as well. There are countless ways to add it to your diet! Below is a pina colada smoothie recipe that includes coconut oil and tastes delicious.

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop Tone It Up Coconut Protein
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tbsp shredded coconut (garnish)

Combine all ingredients in a blender, sip, and enjoy!

Because eating and cooking with coconut oil isn’t enough for me, I use it as a beauty product. In fact if I had to pick one beauty item that I could not live without, it would be coconut oil. When I get out of the shower I run coconut oil through the ends of my hair. Once a week I take extra time to put coconut oil throughout my entire hair, from root to ends. I read somewhere that coconut oil makes your hair grow, whether it is true or not I am obsessed with the way it makes my hair feel so I do it. I also apply coconut oil to my eyebrows, because like I said, I heard it makes your hair grow. I use it as a lip balm and body moisturizer. Living in Upstate New York, winters get pretty cold and my skin gets pretty dry. Coconut oil is a miracle worker when it comes to dry skin. It leaves my body feeling so smooth and it makes me smell good too. I moisturize my face with coconut oil as well, but I only do that 1-2 times each week. My dermatologist told me coconut oil can improve the appearance of sun spots, so I gave it a try and I swear I see a difference. Because my goal in life is to become a Dermatologist NP I’m always researching about skin. I read countless research articles about the effects of coconut oil on the skin and was blown away by the things it can do. Coconut oil can reduce the appearance of cellulite and wrinkles (looks like I’ll be using this product forever). Coconut oil can also whiten your teeth. Crazy, I know. I’m not sure what it is about the coconut oil that makes teeth whiter, but it’s in almost all organic, natural teeth whitening products so I decided to use it by itself and the results were amazing.

I could keep going about this, but I think you get the point. Coconut oil is INCREDIBLE. Keep a jar of it in your bathroom and in your kitchen, you will not be sorry. Don’t be afraid to do some research yourself about the benefits of coconut oil, you might discover something great.
